TV

I don't watch much tv anymore but tonight's lineup was stellar. Recap: Big Bang, HIMYM, 2.5 Men, that show with Putty in it, The Hills, Nuggets game (they suck), Rox game (they kinda suck too).

For the record- $20 bet with Brent on the series.

Kate Nash- Pumpkin Soup...A little Amy Winehouse-ish-y. Sweet song name!
Kate Nash- Pumpkin Soup

I'm From Barcelona- We're From Barcelona...this is how pop music is supposed to sound, you can't help but do some sort of side to side head movement while singing along to this puppy.

Found it (maybe)

Death Cab for Cutie- I Will Possess Your Heart...So this song has been out for a month or so (album doesn' drop til May 18th), but I think I heard it with new ears a few days ago. I dig it, I dig it a lot. Its basically been on repeat since then. Jump to your own conclusions mat about the lyrics, just like every Death Cab song they always mean something different to everyone.
(Warning: There's a 5 minute instrumental intro but its still pretty good)

Death Cab For Cutie- I Will Possess Your Heart

Sally Shapiro- He Keeps Me Alive...Disco Romance...Everyone loves holding hands

Mas!

Hola, aqui es mas musica para ti! Enjoyo!

The Kooks- Love It All...This is a great happy song from another great British band. Check out their new CD "Konk." I have a few songs and they're all great.

The Kooks- Love It All

Wale-Waledance...This is the first in a series (maybe) of guest suggestions for the juice. This one comes to you direct from the slopes courtesy of Platinum. Two interesting facts about Wale- He was born 9 days before me on September 21, 1984 (shit I haven't done anything nearly this awesome) and Wale stands for "We Ain't Like Everyone". Do it.

Spring Fling Bada-Bing (first effort)

So yesterday I downloaded 108 new songs, searching for that elusive jam that would provide the perfect insight into how I'm feeling at the moment about this transitory season and period in my life.

These two songs aren't that song but they kick ass.

Flobots- Handlebars....White boy conscious rap. These guys are from the 303 too which is bad ass. I was hoping to see them at the Fox in a couple of weeks but it already sold out. Gotta make moves to get those tix

I'm also putting this in because then I think you can d/l the song.
Flobots- Handlebars

Los Campesinos!- You! Me! Dancing!...This song doesn't get going til about 1:45 in, but once it starts rockin I dare you to not dance, I double, nay triple, dog dare you...

Los Campesinos- You!Me!Dancing!

ps- new Iglu song on The Hills tonight and they're going to tour in England next month

Friends/Sunshine

Colorado is trying to turn the corner from Winter to Summer through this thing called Spring. Warm sunshine inspires partying and happiness. These two songs reflect those emotions.

Drive By Truckers- Dead, Drunk and Naked (how many times has this happened?)

Railroad Earth- Colorado (compliments of Platinum last year before Summer hit)

Dearth (www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dearth) of Jambands in my life

This post is a reflectionary note that I haven't been listening to jambands at all lately! I'm not sure if its due to a shift in personal preferences or if its due to the death of all my favorite bands that has alienated me from the community. First love- Phish- Gone then back gone again. Second love- The Dead- (Briefly reunited for some shows at Red Rocks)- Dead (again). Third love- String Cheese- Adios. It is a crappy old cliche that it is better to have loved and lost then to have never loved (or something crappy like that). I agree but I'm still pissed that all my favorite bands are gone.

I've found some new tunes by searching the airwaves (This is not true because in fact I've been listening to these songs on my conmputer but I'm not sure what listening to music online is called). Here is one of my recent discoveries that is definitely not a new band but new to me (If I haven't heard it its new to me!! (Said like the NBC slogan from a few years back to promote their reruns)). The second song is probably my favorite song of all time.

Wilco- Jesus, etc.- I love all songs about Jesus thanks to the great music of Faith+1

Elliott Smith- A Fond Farewell- Sadly, Elliott's dead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliott_smith), but his music is unreal. Check out his albums Figure 8 and From a Basement on a Hill.

ps- COME TO IGLU THIS WEEKEND!!!

Iglu & Hartly!

Can't believe I haven't hollered atcha foos about Iglu yet. Obviously one of our favorite bands as a team of friends. I guess I'm putting this up on the off chance some rando stumbles upon my rambles. Also, the boys are making their triumphant return to the 303 on Friday March 7th at The Falcon in Denver and on Saturday March the 8th at the glamorous Club 156 in the UMC. COME TO THE SHOWS!!!

A better description of their tunes than I could piece together, from Spin.com, "This could only have been crafted by kids who grew up in the '90s. The opening vocal line -- "You came into my li-ay-fe" -- is delivered with all of the subtlety of A.J. from the Backstreet Boys, and then it unfolds into two verses of hip-hop (think Len's "Steal My Sunshine") and a sing-song chorus that wouldn't sound out of place on a Mates of State record. Not a far stretch from MGMT, but with happier pills."

GREAT! Britain and texas

At the moment Jared and I are trying to get tix for the Rothbury Festival this summer in Michigan (http://www.rothburyfestival.com), so I figured I'd throw up one of these guys.

As Jared likes to say (and as I mentioned in last blog post), all of the best bands ever in the whole wide world always come from England. In that vain here is one of my favorites from there and in contrast to that I am going with a band from texas (boo! boo! note lack of capitalization of state name, which should be in caps because it is a proper name)

Gomez- who will be at Rothbury (Excitement!) These guys have been around for quite a while and have a solid 5 or so albums under their belt. I saw them at Bonnaroo a few years ago and their performance of the below song on the Roo dvd is one of my faves. This is also Jared's favorite Gomez song (can you say instant credibility!)

Gomez- Nothing is Wrong

Spoon- who won't be at Rothbury (Sadness!). Probably unfair to say they're from Texas because they are actually from Austin which as far as I've been told, doesn't count as Texas and is more like Boulder. Anyway, this is from their 6th and most recent album and the song kicks ass. Also, I don't think Milz is reading this but I dedicate this song to him and the New York Giants (hehe).

Spoon- The Underdog

Who's next?

Here's a few new bands that are getting a lot of shout outs from people who claim to know a lot about music. So I will do my egotistical duty and spread them to the people.

Batting lead off is Estelle featuring Kanye. She's an awesome hip hopper from England and as we all know, thanks to Jared, the British simply make better music than Americans.

Estelle feat. Kanye West- American Boy

Next, is Vampire Weekend who hail from Columbia University and who were declared best upcoming band of 2008 or something along those lines by Spin magazine. I'm going to see them at the Bluebird in Denver on April 1st if anyone else is interested.

Vampire Weekend- The Kids Don't Stand a Chance

Songs by girls about boys

I used to subscribe to the theory that no female musician was worth my time. Luckily/Accidentally I may have either matured or simply been tricked by the "Corporations" into enjoying these two artists. These are my favorite songs by them.

Sara Bareilles has blown the fuck up lately thanks to the VH1 network and dumb college girls and soccer moms who probably feel empowered or something by her lyrics. She just writes great tunes and has some unbelievable pipes. Saw her play with James Blunt a few weeks ago and she stole the show. Plus, she's hot, kinda.

Sara Bareilles- City

M.I.A. is an enigma wrapped up in a dream. Meaning that I don't know anything about her (I could if I wanted to, but I'm not that worried about it). She's just an awesome rapper/synth music star. Very genre defying, which is nice.

M.I.A.- Jimmy

MGMT

To bring the hit music to the people

Okay troops, I'm gonna use this blog to drop the beats on you. Maybe a little info on the band, etc.

I'll start with a band you've all heard of by now but that I diggity dig. MGMT from Brooklyn, NY. Me, Milz and Erabs went to the concert a few weeks ago. Not bad but they sound awesome on their record. Here's a couple of tracks, but I highly recommend the whole album. Enjoy.

btw they're playing bonnaroo this year

MGMT- Kids

MGMT- Time to Pretend (featuring Greatest Lyrics Ever (not a person, the lyrics are that great))
